About JavaSleep

Coffee you love.
Sleep you need.

Most advice treats them as enemies. We think they've just been badly introduced. JavaSleep is a slow magazine about the hours between your last sip and your first dream — with honest reviews, quiet science, and the willingness to admit what isn't settled.

— What we are
We write for people who order a third espresso and mean to be in bed by eleven. Who know that a good night's sleep is half the pleasure of a good morning's coffee. We don't tell you to quit caffeine. We tell you when, and how much, and which cup is worth the trade.
— Who it's for
Adults who like coffee enough to be honest about its costs. Light sleepers, shift workers, jet-lag veterans, parents with newborns, people whose CPAP masks have personalities, anyone who's wondered whether their 4 PM cold brew really is the reason they're awake at 1 AM. Yes, probably. We have a calculator for that, and a field guide for everything around it.
— How we read
Every piece names a mechanism, a number, or a study before it names a verdict. We cite first authors and years; we tell you the sample size; we mark the difference between "well-established", "plausible but thin", and "folk wisdom we keep repeating because it sounds right". When we review a mattress or a CPAP mask, we sleep on it. When we review a decaf, we drink it for a week. The verdict is somewhere in the body of the piece, never in a five-star rating.
House Style — Three Quiet Rules

Mechanisms over vibes.
Numbers over verdicts.
Honest about uncertainty.

The shape of every JavaSleep piece comes back to these three. You can read them as an editorial promise — or as the reason we won't ever publish a "best coffee for sleep" listicle.

— What you'll find here
The Journal is the running stream of essays, reviews, and field reports. Field Notes groups them by subject — caffeine, insomnia, CPAP, mattresses, chronotype, jet lag, the slow weather of long-term tiredness. Contributors collects each writer's beat. The caffeine-timeline calculator lives on the homepage — the most useful paragraph on this site fits inside a <form> tag.
— What you won't
No paywall. No sponsored placements wearing review costumes. No newsletter modal three sentences in. No "experts hate this one trick" headlines. No fearmongering about caffeine, no fearmongering about sleep, no listicles where the rankings change every quarter to gin up the affiliate money.
Where to start

Pick the cup.
Then pick the question.

If you're new here, the homepage's caffeine calculator is the fastest practical thing we offer. The Journal is the rest — a few hundred words to a few thousand, depending on what the question deserves.
